This policy explains how Owner Builder Books, a division of Books Galore (ABN 93 572 631 827), collects, uses and looks after your personal information when you visit ownerbuilderbooks.com.au or order from us. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
We only collect what we need to sell and deliver your books and to answer your questions.
- When you order: your name, delivery and billing address, email address, phone number, what you ordered and any notes you add at checkout.
- When you contact us: your name, email address, phone number if you give it, and your message.
- When you browse: our web server records technical details such as your IP address and browser type, which we use to keep the site secure and working.
You don’t need an account to order, and we don’t ask for more information than an order needs.
Card and payment details
Payments are processed by our payment providers, Stripe and PayPal. You enter your card or PayPal details on their secure systems. We never see or store your full card number.
How we use your information
- To process, pack and deliver your order, and send you order and tracking emails.
- To reply to your enquiries and handle returns and refunds.
- To keep the business, tax and legal records we’re required to keep.
- To protect the website and our customers from fraud and misuse.
We don’t send marketing emails, and we never sell or rent your personal information.
Who we share it with
We only share your information when it’s needed to complete your order or run the website:
- Australia Post, to deliver your parcel and send you tracking details.
- Our payment providers (Stripe and PayPal), to take payment.
- Service providers who host our website and send our emails on our behalf.
Some of these providers, such as our payment and email providers, may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies that are needed for the cart and checkout to work. We also use a few cookies that record how you found our website, such as from a search engine or another website, so we can see where our orders come from. This information stays with us. We don’t use advertising cookies.
Keeping your information safe
Our website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and only the people who run the shop can see order details. We keep order records for as long as we need them for your order and for our legal and tax record-keeping, then delete them securely.
Seeing or correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us. We’ll respond within a reasonable time.
Questions and complaints
If you have a question or a concern about how we’ve handled your personal information, please contact us first and we’ll aim to respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
